PaperPort Notes for the iPad is a coordinated effort (Nuance and Noterize) to do almost everything. It has an incredibly powerful speech-to-text synthesizer (simple tap and record), drawing, keyboarding.  As if that wasn't enough, it includes the ability to insert images, sticky notes, and web-clippings. Options for saving include Dropbox, Box, GoogleDocs,...  Definitely a handy app to have in the toolkit.  Only problem-needs access to wireless.

SNAPSHOT of our BC GROUP'S WORK with Fast ForWord:

Thanks to Urs Ribary whose forward thinking with John Hopkins' help, we have a bit of snapshot of what's been happening with our groups overall.  Click on the image (or here) to download the ppt (version 2007).  This really speaks to our teachers and districts hard work in providing opportunities that make a difference in the lives of our students.  This is only the beginning.... your ideas and comments are needed to help us all learn and grow.  Keep them coming in whatever form you feel comfortable in sharing. (...Janet)

  January, 2011 - A new look!

Much has happened since we started as a group some four years ago. As we launch into the next ten years of the 21st century, I am tweaking the term "resolution" to "intention".  The word 'intention' starts with a hope, a wish, and then an action. In view of this, I invite all of you to think about - "what are your intentions for Fast ForWord in 2011?" (You may wish to add your intentions here by clicking on Edit tab.)

  • to increase this wiki as a collaborative learning place - all of us have knowledge and questions to share together
  • to clarify processes in reading, assessment
  • connect what we currently know with what is in research

2009.10.23:  First Canadian Regional Circle of Learning Conference (October 23, 2009)

Hosts:  Burnaby School District and Scientific Learning

Location:  Byrne Creek Secondary, Burnaby, B.C.

More than 110 participants came from all over BC (Sunshine Coast, Vanc Island, Kelowna, Penticton, Boundary, Prince George) and Alberta to explore Fast ForWord, increase their understanding with Progress Tracker and listen to two keynote addresses. Sherrelle Walker from Scientific Learning shared insights on gaining success with Fast ForWord and Tony Herdman (SFU) shared what his work entailed in the area of brain imaging neuroscience.

The workshops had a component of hands-on as well as sharing of information.  A panel discussion with a question period provided the audience with the various ways of implementation and stories out in the schools.

All keynote addresses and powerpoint presentations have been loaded to the Burnaby Fast ForWord website (http://bbyfastforword.wordpress.com/
